What is an Application?

Applications are fundamental to the use of the Nexar API - they provide authorization credentials to make queries.

An app will have a scope that is given when it's created which can be "Supply", "Design" or both. An app's scope is what allows it to access different parts of the API. The "Supply" scope allows access to supply data such as stock, pricing, or technical specifications information which are updated daily. The "Design" scope allows access to work with your Altium 365 design data.

If an app has the supply scope then it will have a part limit. By default, this will be 1000 parts, but if you have a paid plan you will have more depending on your plan's tier. If you have multiple applications you can distribute your total parts across your apps.

Each app will have its own client ID and secret which are static. These are used to fetch access tokens that can then be used to query the API.

Creating an Application

First, you will need to sign in to portal.nexar.com. Then go to "applications" and click the "Create App" button.

This overlay will then appear.

You will need to enter the name of your application with a description and select the scope you want to use. These scopes allow you to access different API's. For querying design components, select the design scope. For supply components, select supply scope. If you want to query both with the same application, you are able to select both scopes. Once you have entered the information, click "create".

Once you have created your application, go to your applications. On this screen, you have access to all the applications associated with that organization
